SUMMARY:Giving Dog Training Back to the Dogs: Empowering the Canine Learner
DESCRIPTION:Dog training needs a big re-think! Join Chirag Patel\, an internationally respected behaviour and training consultant for a seminar focusing on positive reinforcement with a difference. \nThe theme for the seminar will be empowerment; how do we give our canine learners choice and control during training. How do we truly have a behavioural conversation that is two sided; empowering our dogs to tell us when to start\, stop\, slow down.

SUMMARY:Real Dog Yoga workshop and Fireworks seminar
DESCRIPTION:Does your dog struggle to relax\, do they need more mental stimulation without hyping them up further\, or more body awareness and muscle control? Or are you simply looking for a new and exciting activity for you and your dog to enjoy together? Then this workshop is for you. \nReal Dog Yoga helps dogs to be more mindful and calm by teaching postures\, expressions and actions which will benefit them in everyday life. As participants\, you will use option training i.e. giving the dogs a way of opting in or out of learning which aids in heightening communication between you and your dog. Dogs are taught a set of 30 postures (which are broken into 3 sets: sitting\, laying and standing) as well as 15 actions and 10 expressions. These are designed to help the dog learn to become calm or maintain calmness. It also helps to increase the dog-human interspecies vocabulary and create better understanding and compassion. The postures\, expressions and actions also increase body awareness\, muscle control and communication with the owners. They can be taught to any age or breed of dog with any age owner. \nAfter learning these positions in the workshop\, dogs actively repeat them often in real life\, stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system which helps them to become or remain calm.

SUMMARY:Do As I Do workshop
DESCRIPTION:Do as I Do is a new training method based on a dog’s social cognitive skills\, particularly on his imitative ability. With this technique\, dogs will learn new behaviours by observing and imitating their owners. During the semina\, Sara will describe how to teach dogs the “imitation rule” and how to progress through the training protocol. Dogs will first be taught to imitate a small set of familiar actions (actions already trained with traditional techniques) and will then generalize this rule. At the end of the training protocol\, the owner will be able to teach new behaviours to their dogs\, simply by showing them what to do. These new actions will be then put under verbal cue. Sara will also explain what are the cognitive abilities implied in imitation and in this training technique\, which is the first training method based on dog’s social cognitive skills.

SUMMARY:Dogs that Bite and Fight
DESCRIPTION:The problem of dogs biting people and fighting other dogs is getting worse. Every year\, the NHS dog bite figures increase; court cases for dangerous dogs are at an all-time high; the government is still failing to tackle the issue of “status dogs”; postal and other delivery workers and assistance dog users are demanding protection; and behaviourists’ case-loads are full of biters and fighters. Whatever happened to man’s best friend? No sensible person wants their dog to bite them or anybody else\, or to fight with other dogs\, so why is it happening on an unprecedented scale?

SUMMARY:Emotions in dogs: the EMRA perspective and its practical application in every-day life
DESCRIPTION:This one-day seminar is about the scientific principles underpinning all of these ideas. The knowledge you will gain will change how you see dogs forever. This is a bold statement\, but it is true because there is still so much misinformation about dogs circulating around the internet\, in magazines and elsewhere. \n1. The beginning: the evolution of emotions\, where do they come from and what are they for? \n2. The cognitive dog: understanding the core emotional states. \n3. When things go wrong: understanding fear\, stress\, anxiety\, phobias and mood disorders. \n4. The every-day practical application of emotions in dogs: the COAPE EMRA system explained. \n5. The training approach – changing behaviour by changing emotional states through training. \n6. The pharmacological approach – changing behaviour by changing emotional states through pharmacology.
